Resize a photo to 420×540 pixels
IRCC's digital photo spec for Canadian visitor visas, work permits and study permits asks for at least 420×540 pixels, with the file between 60 and 240 KB, and both file-size bounds are enforced. This tool center-crops and resizes any image to exactly 420×540, entirely on this page.
Dimensions are the easy part: IRCC also measures head size (31–36 mm chin to crown) and bans any alteration of the photo. The Canada visa checker measures the full geometry before you submit.

Which applications use 420×540 pixels?
IRCC digital uploads for temporary residence (visitor visas, work permits and study permits) and Canadian citizenship applications use the same 420×540 px target. The Canadian passport is different: it needs 50×70 mm prints with a photographer's stamp.
Why was my photo rejected for being too small a file?
IRCC enforces a minimum of 60 KB as well as the 240 KB ideal maximum. If you compressed hard to be safe, re-export at higher quality; resizing here keeps the image data intact so a 420×540 JPEG normally lands inside the window.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is resized right on the page and is never uploaded or stored.
