What is a France Photo d'identité (universal ID photo) photo?
A French photo d'identité is a 35×45 mm photograph with the face measuring 32–36 mm from chin to crown — 70–80% of the frame — against a light grey or light blue background. Unlike almost every other country, France explicitly rejects white backgrounds.

No — French rules require a light grey or light blue background specifically so the photo isn't overexposed. Our checker verifies the background colour band as well as its uniformity.
