Worth knowing: Don't over-crop: Passport Online wants head, shoulders and upper body with space around the head, because the system does its own cropping. Our delivered file keeps the required framing rather than a tight passport-style crop.

What is a Ireland Passport (Passport Online) photo?
An Irish passport photo for Passport Online is a digital upload: a colour JPEG of at least 715×951 pixels and up to 9 MB, on a completely plain light grey, white or cream background, showing head, shoulders and upper body with space around the head, taken within the last six months.
Ireland rejects scans of prints, selfies and edited images. Transparent glasses are now allowed if they are free of glare, reversing the older ban many guides still quote. The paper route via An Post instead takes four identical prints between 35×45 and 38×50 mm, two signed by a witness.
Scans of printed photos, edited images, selfies and zoomed-in crops are all rejected. This page checks your framing, background and resolution, then delivers a compliant upload file plus a print sheet for the paper route.

Frequently asked questions
What are the Passport Online photo requirements?
Minimum 715×951 pixels, JPEG, up to 9 MB, in colour, taken within 6 months, plain light background (grey, white or cream), neutral expression, no editing or filters, not a scan or a selfie. Someone else should take it from about 1.5 metres.
Are glasses allowed in Irish passport photos?
Yes, though this changed. Transparent glasses are acceptable if there's no glare and the frames don't cover your eyes. Sunglasses and tinted lenses are banned. Many older guides still say no glasses; current official guidance allows them.
What about paper applications?
Paper (An Post Passport Express) needs four identical printed photos between 35×45 and 38×50 mm, two of them signed on the back by your witness. The print sheet provides four identical copies.
Can I use a photo booth?
Participating booths issue a Photo Code you can enter in Passport Online instead of uploading. A compliant self-made photo upload, which is what this page produces, is equally valid and cheaper.
How we handle compliance
- We check your photo against the official rules. We never retouch your face, and we only normalize the background where the destination country permits it.
- Every requirement is cited from official government sources, with the verification date shown on the page.
- What you get is a report of measurements, not a guarantee. Final acceptance always rests with the issuing authority.
