Mexican passport photo: the 30-day rule

The Mexican passport photo is a 35×45 mm colour print on a white background: front view, no glasses, head uncovered, no smiling. Unusually, it must be taken no more than 30 days before your SRE appointment, the strictest recency rule of any major country.

Worth knowing: Most countries accept photos up to six months old, but Mexico wants them within 30 days. A leftover set from a previous application is the classic rejection; take a fresh photo close to your appointment date.

What is a Mexico Passport photo?

A Mexican passport photo is a 35×45 mm colour print on a white background: front view, neutral expression without smiling, no glasses, head uncovered. It must be taken no more than 30 days before the application, the strictest photo-recency rule of any major country.

Two identical prints are presented at the SRE office or consulate, where a biometric photo is also captured. The printed set remains a hard checklist item, and stale photos from a previous trámite are the classic rejection.

Two identical prints accompany the application (the SRE also captures a biometric photo at the office). Check your photo against the rules, then print the sheet the same week you apply.

Frequently asked questions

How recent must a Mexican passport photo be?

Taken within 30 days of the application, much stricter than the international 6-month norm. Date your print run accordingly.

What are the photo rules?

35×45 mm in colour, white background, front view, neutral expression without smiling, no glasses of any kind, head uncovered, ears preferably visible, no heavy makeup or face-altering accessories.

How many photos do I need?

Two identical prints. The sheet delivers four 35×45 mm copies with cut lines, leaving spares for other trámites.

Is the photo also taken at the SRE office?

Yes. A biometric photo is captured at the appointment, but the two printed photos remain a checklist requirement. Consulates abroad follow the same standard.

How we handle compliance

  • We check your photo against the official rules. We never retouch your face, and we only normalize the background where the destination country permits it.
  • Every requirement is cited from official government sources, with the verification date shown on the page.
  • What you get is a report of measurements, not a guarantee. Final acceptance always rests with the issuing authority.
